DINO restaurant POS now runs on Windows PCs
A restaurant that already has a PC at the counter no longer has to replace it to run DINO.
DINO, the NukkadShops restaurant POS, now runs on Windows PCs and laptops as well as Android devices. Every device works on one account and one menu, so a single outlet can mix Windows and Android.
What runs where
- Counter POS: a Windows PC or laptop, or an Android POS device.
- Kitchen display: a Windows PC or an Android screen.
- Captain app: an Android phone, tablet or handheld.
- Mobile POS: an Android phone or the NS MPOS handheld.
Why this matters for a restaurant
Until now, moving to DINO meant a new counter machine. Many restaurants already own a desktop, often running older billing software, and a working PC is a reasonable thing not to throw away. On Windows, that machine becomes the DINO counter, and the kitchen still gets KOTs and kitchen screens.
It also helps chains. Each outlet can keep the hardware it has and still run one menu and one set of reports.
What stays the same
DINO on Windows is cloud-first with offline support, the same as on Android: billing carries on when the internet drops and syncs when the connection returns. It works with a touch screen, or with a mouse and keyboard. An order billed on the Windows counter goes to the same kitchen queue as one taken on the Captain app.
Printers and peripherals
DINO works with printers and peripherals from many makers, and we keep adding supported models. Tell us the printer, cash drawer or scanner you use when you book a demo, and we confirm it before setup.
Where this leaves our Android advice
In July we argued that for a retail counter an integrated Android device beats a Windows PC, and for retail we still think so. Restaurants that already own a PC are a different case, so we have added an update to Android POS vs Windows POS.
